Thierry Henry aims to prove Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wrong by combining TV duties alongside furthering coaching career
Thierry Henry is determined to
prove Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wrong and successfully combine his
first steps into coaching with his work for Sky television.
Wenger told Arsenal’s record goalscorer Henry that he would have to quit his role as a Sky television pundit in order to work towards his Uefa Pro Licence as a coach with the club’s Under-18s, despite the fact the former striker had already been offered a job by head of the academy Andries Jonker.
Henry has now left Arsenal, where he coached while he worked for Sky last season, but is looking to take up a post elsewhere. Exploratory talks have been held with officials at Watford and West Ham United, while there is also the possibility of Henry landing a job with a national association.

Henry had been willing to work alongside Kwame Ampadu with Arsenal’s Under-18s for free and assured Wenger that his Sky commitments would not become an issue, but the 66-year-old would not budge.
Further offers of Henry going in to work with Arsenal’s strikers for one day a week were also repelled by Wenger, who was adamant that he must quit Sky to stay at the club in any capacity.
Sky were happy for Henry to combine his punditry with a role at Arsenal and will not oppose him take a coaching job elsewhere.
Henry released a statement on Twitter that read: “I would like to thank Andries Jonker for offering me the chance to coach the U18s @arsenal, which I was honoured to accept. However I respect Arsène Wenger's decision and I want to wish their manager Kwame Ampadu, the boys and everyone at the club all the best for the forthcoming season.”
